Why Pilates?

The Pilates Method is a proven non-impact exercise system focused on improving flexibility, strength and body awareness. Pilates promotes toning without bulk, and is based on efficient, fluid movements resulting in a maximum benefit from the exercises in a minimum amount of time and movement. Pilates works for a wide range of people from athletes to seniors, people in various stages of physical therapy, and women during pregnancy and after birth.

Pilates is easy on your joints using specific mat work or spring-resistant apparatus. It helps create a mind-body connection and the Pilates movement and principals can be carried into everyday life.

Center Cut Pilates was founded in 2013 by Alanna Barbone Van Kampen

Alanna has a professional dance background. She began dancing at the age of 4. After high school she spent 6 year training with the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City and was a faculty member for the children’s program. Alanna has danced in many shows and classical ballets. She danced with the Radio City Christmas Spectacular for 6 seasons.

In 2003 she was introduced to her first Pilates Mat class and was immediately hooked. While dancing, Alanna was injured with bilateral stress fractures in her heels. Unable to dance for nearly 10 months she stayed in shape and maintained flexibility through Pilates and connected even more with the movements of the Pilates Method. After spending months recovering from her injury through Pilates she decided to get certified in the Pilates Mat and later, a full comprehensive certification. Alanna was certified through Core Pilates NYC where she spent over 500 hours learning, observing and teaching the Pilates Method. She has taught Pilates and dance at various schools in NJ.

Alanna is certified in Progressing Ballet Technique through Marie Walton-Mahon and also went through the Bella Bellies Pilates program for prenatal and postpartum Pilates. She truly believes that Pilates helped her stay strong and active through her 3 pregnancies, as well as during postpartum recovery. Alanna continues to train and learn through other Pilates instructors and workshops.

“My favorite thing about Pilates is, not only is it for every one from every walk of life, but it can be done anywhere. Though I love the equipment, you can always do Pilates mat wherever you are, no special equipment needed. Even if it’s just 10 minutes a day, Pilates always makes me feel more centered and happier both physically and mentally.”
